The LOPES Middle School Soccer Girls traveled to the AAA Soccer Powerhouse MOON Area TIGERS. This years earlier meeting with the Tigers resulted in the Lopes worst defeat of the season in a 0 – 7 loss. So to play the Tigers on a muddy field away from home was a big task.

The game started well for the Lopes. The first 20mins the Lopes held the TIGERS at bay. The TIGERS had most of the procession, and the shots on goal were defiantly lopsided in the Tigers favor. But the Lopes defense Gianna Babusci, Sophie Culley, Kayleigh Kelleher, Eden Schleis and Payton Sciere kept the shots outside of the 18yd box and Lydija Amayo turned back 11 shots on goal to keep the Lopes in the game. The Lopes had a number of chances on counter attacks especially down the right side with their physical forward Revenna Kelley getting a number of shots and crosses off,but non were true. At the 21MIN mark the wheels came off when the Tigers scored goals at the 21MIN, 22MIN, 27MIN and 28MIN mark giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead going into the 1/2.

The mood at the 1/2 was as bleak as the gray clouds hovering over the team. It looked like another 7-0 loss was coming the Lopes way.

The second 1/2 did not start well, just 5MINS into the 2nd 1/2 the TIGERS scored again . LOPES 0 – TIGERS 5. Then came the spark the LOPES were looking for when Caroline Sweeney on a terrific individual effort battled down the TIGERS Left touch line, pounded her way through 3 defenders and was able to launch a cross to a crashing Allie Nau at the 36MIN mark to give the LOPES their first tally. LOPES 1 – TIGERS 5. Then at the 47MIN mark Caroline Sweeney was not done when through another outstanding individual effort scored a goal on her own to make the score LOPES 2- TIGERS 5. At the 50MIN mark the show turned from the Caroline Sweeney show to the Minah Syam show. Minah played processed, working hard, winning balls, beating defenders, launching shot after shot. Two found net. One at the 53MIN mark and another at the 58MIN mark that was assisted on by Amanda Roberts. LOPES 4 – TIGERS 5. If only this game could have been extended 5 more MINS it could have been a comeback for the ages, but the 60MIN game ended in a 4 – 5 defeat.

The Lopes got great goalkeeping from Elise Nardozzi who turned back TIGERS shots to keep the Lopes in the game. The LOPES got great midfield play from Amanda Roberts, Allison Haley and Sophie Guest.
