The Avonworth Golf Team had a great 2020 season, finishing with a 10-2 record that earned a spot in the first round of the WPIAL AA team playoffs. At Duck Hollow Golf Course they finished 4th in a field of 10 teams, but only the top 3 teams move on to the WPIAL final.

Freshman Brandon Sapolsky (84) played the top round of the day for the Lopes with 2 birdies and 1 misadventure, and sophomore Shane Root (86) was just 2 shots back delivering the #2 score. After playing strong all season Kai Carlson (88) had his first off day which was partly the result of hitting his irons too strong and sending 2 shots long into some ponds and 2 others long into the trees. The Lopes three starting seniors, Nathan Scrabis (94) Mason Donovan (100) and Nick Slater (105) unfortunately also had off days on an unfamiliar course.

Golf can be very difficult, and in that challenge it teaches, and in its difficulty lies the beauty of the sport. Congratulations Lopes on a great season, facing the challenges, getting to the playoffs, and learning and growing through it all.
