Antelopes News · Strong Start for Swimmers at WPIAL Championships


The Boys and Girls Swim team arrived ready to compete on Day 1 of the WPIAL Championships at the University of Pittsburgh. The day ended with both teams in contention with the Boys in 1st place and the Girls in 5th.

Both teams started strong in the first event, the 200 Medley Relay, with the Girls posting a Team Record performance to earn 3rd place and the Boys finishing 2nd.

Strong performances were delivered in the Individual events. Senior Kaylee Madey started things off with a 15th place finish in the 200 Freestyle. That was followed by the 200 Individual Medley which saw Senior Luke Tomczak move up the leader board to finish 3rd while Freshman Matthew Purcell earned 5th place.

In the 50 Freestyle Sophomores Anna Neiss and Anna Kohler finished 4th and 18th respectively. Senior Luke Wagner earned 10th place in the event for the boys with Juniors Hugo Eadie finishing 16th and Gavin Mee finishing 27th.

In the Girls 100 Butterfly, Freshman Catarina Raich finished 10th, Senior Angie Patarini finished 15th with Kohler and Junior Carly Spahr taking 21st and 26th. On the Boys side, Junior Cooper Groll picked-up a silver medal with his 2nd place finish with fellow Junior Graham Herzig finishing 7th

In the final event of Day 1, the Girls 200 Freestyle Relay took 6th place with the Boys team finishing 3rd.

The teams will finish the WPIAL Championship competition Friday afternoon.
