Antelopes News · Avonworth Wrestlers end Duel meet season with a convincing win

The Avonworth/ Northgate wrestling team ended its duel meet season with a huge win over visiting Pittsburgh Central Catholic by a score of 54 to 24. With the largest crowd in recent memory in attendance the wrestlers did not disappoint. Things began a little slow for the Co-op team losing the first 2 bouts of the night. After those first 2 losses the team didn’t lose another match the rest of the evening. At 120 pounds Ryan Michirella pinned his opponent in :34 seconds. The next match Central forfeited to senior Michael Blaser. Feeding off the crowds excitement 132 pounds Eli Kauer then pinned his opponent and that was followed by another pin by senior Callen Suto at 138 pounds. At 145 Senior Ethan Eberhart had a close match but he prevailed by a score of 5-4. Next came Anthony Mundorf who then pinned his opponent in 13 seconds. That was followed by 3 more pins one by Joey Boughton 160 pounds the other by Tim Eng at 170 pounds and the last by senior Jeremiah Georges at 182 pounds. Avonworth had to forfeit the 195 pound weight class and then at 220 pounds Jake Barbabella finished the wrestling for the evening by defeating his opponent 13 -6. Avonworth then forfeited the 285 pound weight class and the final score was 54-24

The wrestlers now enter the Individual portion of their schedule as they travel to Canon McMillan High school this Friday and Saturday. Each of the Avonworth/ Northgate wrestlers are seeded in the top 4 in the section in their respective weight classes. If they all wrestle to their seeded placement they will qualify for the WPIAL individual tournament the following day.

The win tonight also gave the team the 1st winning season in over 10 years.
