Cross Country Runners Impress at State Championship
The Avonworth Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams sent 9 runners to the PIAA Championships in Hershey this past weekend.
Competing against 216 runners in the A Championship, the Boys Team, finished in 15th place with Junior Jackson Habala earning a medal for his 21st place finish. Habala finished with a time of 16:57 and was followed by Junior Quentin Braillion at 17:56 and Freshman Matthew Purcell at 18:26. Also finishing under 20 minutes were Sophomore David Kujawinski, Junior Eli Kauer and Sophomore Ben Monti. Sophomore Luke Woodfill also had a strong performance finishing in 20:21. Senior Luke Wagner did not run due to injury.
In the Girls AA Championship, which consisted of 234 runners, Avonworth was led by Senior Anna Igims who finished 26th with a time of 20:07. This is the fourth consecutive year Igims qualified for the State Meet which is a team record. Sophomore Lopes Sophomore Lindsey Hartle finished in 84th place with a time of 21:04.
