Antelopes News · XC Teams Finish in Top 10 at Red, White and Blue Classic

The Avonworth Varsity and JV Cross Country Teams participated in the 17th Annual Red, White and Blue Classic over the weekend at Schenley Park. The Girls Varsity and the Boys Varsity and JV teams finished the day in the top 10 in their divisions.

The Girls team competed in the AA Event that included 144 runners representing 24 teams from across Western Pennsylvania. The team finished in 6th place and were led by Senior Anna Igims who placed 11th. Top performances for the team included Sophomore Lindsey Hartle – 34th Sophomore Taea Schriefer – 51st, Freshman Laurel Purcell – 70th, Senior Lauren Pflueger – 80th and Natalie Marshall – 94th.

The Boys Varsity team finished in 7th place in the A Event that included 26 A and 140 runners. Junior Jackson Habala let the way for the boys finishing in 5th place.  He was followed by Freshman Matthew Purcell – 36th, Sophomore Ben Monti – 43rd, Sophomore David Kujawinski – 47th, Senior Luke Wagner – 50th, Junior Eli Kauer – 52nd and Junior Luke Woodfill – 58th.

The Boys JV team finished 2nd in the A JV Boys Event. Freshman Jack O’Dell finished in 2nd Place followed by Freshman Derek Brooks in 3rd. Also running for the team were Freshman Nate Gollings – 7th, Sophomore Noah Talarico – 9th, Freshman Ryan Ehmann – 10th, Junior Mike Frank – 11th, Junior Tim Eng – 12th, Freshman Duncan Rooney – 13th, Freshman Alex Adamiak 14th, Senior Michael Blaser 15th, Junior Roman Simkins – 16th and Senior Andrew McDowell – 18th.

The teams will host a home meet on Tuesday afternoon at Ohio Township park against Northgate and North Catholic. The teams will honor their seniors after the meet which starts at 4:00.
