The Girls and Boys Track and Field Teams are making preparations for the WPIAL Track and Field Championships that will be held on Thursday, May 16th at Slippery Rock University.
The defending State Champion Girls Team will be competing in the AAA Championship and will be led by Senior Hayden Robinson, a Quinnipiac University recruit, who is seeded 1st in both the 100 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash. Senior Megan Wisniewski, who will be running at Edinboro next year, is seeded 3rd in the 800 Meter Run. Also qualifying in individual events are Junior Lauren Pflueger in the 300 Meter Hurdles, Junior Anna Igims in the 1600 Meter Run and Freshman Lydia Valeriano in the 3200 Meter Run. Robinson, Wisniewski and Pflueger along with Senior Kayley Wisniewski qualified in the 4×400 Meter Relay and are seeded 5th. Megan and Kayley Wisniewski, Igims and Freshman Lindsey Hartle are seeded 7th in the 4×800 Meter Relay. Additional members of the Girls WPIAL team include Sophomore Joey Skillen and Freshman Maggie Collenbrander.
The undefeated Section Champion Boys Team will also be well represented at WPIALs. Seniors Noah Clickett and Jacob Noethinger lead the individual event qualifiers that will be competing in the AA Championship Meet. Clickett is be seeded in the top 10 in both the 200 Meter Dash and 400 Meter Dash and Noethinger is seeded 6th in the 800 Meter Run. Also competing in the individual events are Junior Luke Wagner in the 300 Meter Hurdles and Long Jump and Sophomore Jackson Habala in the 3200 Meter Run. The 3rd seeded 4×400 Relay team will include Clickett and Wagner along with Seniors Jonah Brandt and Nate O’Mara. The team of Noethinger, Brandt, Wagner and Habala is seeded 4th in the 4×800 Relay and in the 4×100 Relay, Seniors Cole Logan and Antoine Rivers, JuniorJonathan Nicolaus, and Freshman Sanjit Darji have also earned a top 10 seed. Additional members of the Boys WPIAL team include Junior Paul Baldauff, Sophomore Eli Kauer, and Freshman Ian Syam.
The top 4 finishers in the Girls AAA Finals and top 5 finishers in the Boys AA Finals will receive automatic entries into the PIAA State Championship Meet on May 24th and 25th at Shippensburg University.
