Antelopes News · Swim Teams Prepare to defend WPIAL Titles

Northgate/Avonworth Swim Team Coach Jess McKelvey has lofty goals for her swim teams this year. With 12 Seniors returning from the most successful season in school history, McKelvey has her sights set on more championships. ‘I think the boys team is in a great position to defend their WPIAL Championship” McKelvey stated, “and the girls should be in the running as well.”

The Boys team will be looking to earn their 4th undefeated Section Championship in a row and defend last year’s WPIAL Team Championship. Returning Seniors include Aidan SommersZach ReskovacMason HerzigWylie BozadaNick Lockhart, and Luke Myer. Sommers, Reskovac, Herzig and Bozada were all WPIAL qualifiers last year with Sommers also qualifying for the State Championship. Other WPIAL qualifiers who will be retuning this year are Juniors Luke TomczakLuke Wagner and Sophomores Cooper GrollGrahm Herzig, and Clark Bernauer. Groll, Sommers and Tomczak will also be looking to defend their WPIAL Relay Event Championships.

The Girls team will also be in the running for a Section and WPIAL Championship with a team that has added depth behind defending WPIAL Champion and State Runner-up Karen Siddoway. In addition to Siddoway, the team will be led by Seniors Chloe CropperBrianna NowkaSamantha Spade and Tess Theobald. The team returns WPIAL Qualifiers Siddoway, Cropper, Nowka and Theobald along with Juniors Kaylee MadeyAngelina Patarini and Isabella Salerno and Sophomores Danaca Raich and Carley Spahr. Freshman Anna KohlerAnna NeissBrianna Klatzkin and Ella Ciarimboli will be counted on to contribute in both relay and individual events.

The teams will host Quaker Valley Thursday night at 6:00 PM in their final preseason meet. The regular season starts on Tuesday, December 11th at 6:00 PM with a non-section meet against Carlynton at Northgate High School.
