On Saturday, October 6, members of the Avonworth High School Cross Country Team spent the early morning hours helping out their local Ohio Twp. Parks & Recreation Department with their 11th annual 5k run/walk at OT Park.
For the fourth consecutive year, the student-athletes volunteered their time by handing out water to race participants, directing traffic and runners through the course, and tallying results at the finish line.
The team also had two runners compete in the 5k race. Sophomore Timmy Eng finished first in his age group, while Freshman David Kujawinski finished second overall.
Meanwhile on that same morning, three members of the Girls Varsity Cross Country team traveled to the Lawrence County Fairgrounds to compete in the Slippery Rock University Bill Lennox Invitational. In a very muddy race with over 150 runners from A, AA, and AAA schools, our school was well represented. Freshmen Maggie Colenbrander & Taea Schriefer finished 53rd & 43rd, while Junior Anna Igims finished 8th overall!
The Avonworth Cross Country team will compete for the WPIAL championship on October 25 at the California University of Pennsylvania.
