As the Avonworth/Northgate track & field teams competed at the Pine Richland Invitational on Friday, a veritable monsoon couldn’t stop Hunter Robinson’s relentless assault on the sprints in Western PA. The Avonworth senior stormed her way to 1st place gold in the 100m and 200m dash, setting a meet record in the latter event. Her time in the 100 is a PA #2 and her time in the 200 is the #1 time in the state.
Avonworth junior Hayden Robinson was nipping at her heels, though, coming in second in both the 100 and 200.
Northgate junior Megan Wisniewski grabbed a second place silver in the mile, and a 4th place medal in the half-mile.
Hunter, Hayden, Megan and Avonworth sophomore Lauren Pflueger saved their best race for last, as the 4 girls put together a gold-medal mile relay that demolished the meet record, broke the school record and is the #1 time in the WPIAL.
The girls 2-mile relay also ran well, as Northgate junior Kayley Wisniewski, Northgate senior Jenna Gobrecht, Avonworth freshman Catherine Penrod and Avonworth sophomore Anna Igims placed 3rd.
All those high places added up to the second-best team score out of all 55 teams in attendance.
For the boys, Avonworth sophomore Luke Wagner leapt to a 6th place medal in the triple jump. Luke also anchored the mile relay to a 4th place finish, with Avonworth freshman Anthony Mundorf, Northgate senior Jonas Jason and Avonworth junior Jacob Noethiger running strong legs as well.
