Middle School Swimmers Start Season Undefeated
Coach Terry Benson knew her team had some big shoes to fill this year after last year’s 8th graders moved to the Varsity program. Those swimmers, who are now Freshman, were big contributors on the varsity squad that found success at both the WPIAL and State level this past season. But with nearly 30 swimmers on the Middle School team, Coach Benson’s team is once again positioned for success with both the Boys and Girls Teams earning victories in their first 3 meets in dominating fashion.
The Girls team, led by Anna Neiss, Grace Baldauff, Taryn Navillat, Anna Kohler and Catrina Raich, have defeated Cornell 100-22, Carlynton 87-49 and Montour 81-59. Also contributing to the team’s success are Mariah Johnson, Brianna Klatzkin, Alexis Schmigel, Elle Theobald, Tiona Travato and Hailey Yakemawiz.
Matthew Purcell, Andrew Baldauff, Jack Blaser, Justin Kendrick and Ryan Ehmann have paced the Boy’s team to victories against Cornell 114-5, Carlynton 103-31 and Montour 65-51. Helping to secure these victories were Jacob Chestnut, Jordan Dawley, Jackson Ewing, Alambir Goraya, Nate Hardiman, Jack Hustwit, Brendan King, Waleed Sohail,Simon Tracy and Henry Wagner.
Next week the teams will travel to Blackhawk on Tuesday and South Fayette on Thursday. On Thursday, April 26th both teams will be participating in the South West Conference Relays.
