Antelopes News · Swim Team Sends 11 To WPIAL Championships

The Boy’s and Girl’s Swim Teams continue to break records by placing 11 swimmers in 25 events in the WPIAL Championships which will be held next week at the University of Pittsburgh. The teams also set a new record by receiving top 10 seeds in 14 events.

The Boy’s team will be looking to improve on last year’s 4th place WPIAL finish. The team is seeded 1st in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay and are 4th in the 400 Freestyle Relay where they are the defending WPIAL Champions. In the individual events the team has a number of top qualifiers including Senior Nick Madey who is seeded 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke and 5th in the 100 Butterfly and fellow Senior Zech Boyce who is seeded 5th in the 200 Freestyle. Junior Aidan Sommers is seeded 4th in the 100 Backstroke and 10th in the 200 Individual Medley. Sophomore Luke Tomczak will also swim in the Individual Medley where he is seeded 8th as well as the 100 Breaststroke. Freshman Cooper Groll also secured a top spot in the 100 Freestyle where he is seeded 7th best. Also qualifying in the individual events are Sophomore Luke Wagner who will be swimming the 50 and 100 Freestyle and Freshman Graham Herzig who will be swimming the 100 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. Juniors Wylie BozadaMason Herzig and Zech Reskovac along with Freshman Clark Bernauer will serve as alternates for the relay events.

The Girl’s Team that finished in 6th Place last year will be led by Junior Karen Siddoway who has earned the top seed in both the 100 and 200 Freestyle events where she earned 2nd place finishes last year. Also swimming in the individual events will be Sophomore Angie Patarini who is seeded 11th in in the 100 Backstroke and 24th 100 Butterfly, Sophomore Kaylee Madey seeded 15th in the 100 Freestyle and Freshman Carley Spahr seeded 15th in the 100 Backstroke and 23rd in the 100 Butterfly. Seniors Ava Groll and Katherine McFarland, Juniors Brianna Nowka and Tess Theobald, and Freshman Danica Raich will look to have an impact in the Relay Events where the team is seeded 8th in the 400 Freestyle Relay, 10th in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and 14th in the 200 Medley Relay.
