Game Recap

MS LADY LOPES SOCCER DOWNS SEWICKLEY ACADEMY 4-0

The MS girls moved their perfect record to 5-0. On Tues. Sept 12th the girls traveled to Sewickley Academy to face their section rival and played a dominating game.

The game started strong for the girls with almost 100% possession in the Panthers zone. The Lopes ripped a number of quality shots that were stopped by the hitting a player in the 18 yd box. The pressure was so intense that at the 6MIN mark a foul was called on a desperate Panther trying to clear the ball from the zone. The foul was right outside the 18yd box. Ava Wert did the honors of converting the Lopes opportunity into a goal. The Lopes pressure continued resulting a corner kick at the 17MIN mark. Ava Wert sent the corner into the box which rattled around until Maria Bubusci tapped it into the net giving the Lopes a 2-0 lead. Panther’s seemed to be stunned by the pressure they were under and just 2MINS later at the 19MIN mark F Caroline Penrod found Ava Wert behind the defense who then hammered a shot that tickled the twine giving the Lopes a 3-0 lead. The 1/2 ended with the Panthers gaining a corner, their only opportunity during the 1/2 to score a goal. The 1/2 ended once the ball was cleared from the Lopes zone.

The Lopes started fast in the 2nd 1/2 when Ava Wert scored the hat trick on a Panther foul giving the Lopes a 4-0 lead. The Panthers mounted a number of attacks into the Lopes zone in the second 1/2 but none resulted in a goal. The game ended with a Lopes 4-0 win, moving their record to 5-0. Lopes defense was steller in the performance with Kate Bernardi, Tess Pappas, Elle Cepdea and Sophie Culley not allowing the Panthers to mount a serious offense all day.

After the match coach Pappas said he was very happy with the girls passion the girls played with and their speed of play. He added, “its nice to see the girls trying to do things that we work on in training”. Coach Buren’s added, “its always nice to go into that venue and get a win”.
