MS GIRLS DRAW AGAINST BEAVER AREA BOBCATS

Thursday afternoon the MS Girls Soccer met the Beaver Area Bobcats in a epic clash. It was Bobcats brute strength verse the Lopes speed and quickness. The Bobcats started slow and Maggie Colenbrander made them pay, she got stopped while making a hard drive to the net at the 8min mark and then was able to find her own ball while somehow finding herself behind the defender and was able to tuck it home to give the Lopes the 1-0 lead. The Lopes kept the pressure up for the next 5mins and then the momentum changed to the Bobcats way who were able to get 3 corner kicks and ripped a number of dangerous shots that were turned away by the Lopes keeper Lydia Amayo. The Lopes defenders (Tai Schreifer, Amanda Roberts, Sophie Culley, Elle Cepeda and Kate Berardi) had a large part in keeping the Bobcays from scoring. There best chance came at the 18min mark when a shot was easily going to find net when somehow Elle Cepeda turned the shot away. At the end of the 1/2 the momentum turned back to the Lopes favor, but no one on the home team could put one away.

The Bobcats came into the 2nd half looking to skewer the Lopes. The pressure was intense for the first 10mins. The Bobcats were able to get a number of good opportunities but were either stopped by the Lopes defense or missed wide of the net. Then the Lopes made a rush and rattled the Bobcat net but could not find the net, on one of the shots the Bobcats quickly countered and were able to score a hard earned goal at the 49min mark. The Lopes owned the game for the rest of the match but could not find that right combination to find net, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.

Coach Pappas said after the game,”I am proud how we played today. That was a good team that was much bigger than us physically, but my girls battled to the end and gave themselves a chance to win it at the end.” Coach Burens said ” I was proud of our defense, we had a number of terrific individual efforts today that made the difference in the end.”

The MS girls are now 2-0-1,
